Chapter 1: The Knock
Cartoons blare from the television in Ren’s apartment, providing the soundtrack to a lazy Sunday in full bloom. Ren, a man in his mid-twenties who is permanently, existentially tired, lounges on his couch with his face half-buried in a bag of chips.
The sudden ding-dong of his doorbell shatters the peace.
"No peace in this cruel world," he grumbles, dragging himself to the door. He swings it open and instantly freezes. Two police officers stand in the hallway—stern, silent, and flashing their badges.
Ren’s mind immediately spirals into a frantic internal monologue. Why are the police here? Did I do something? Did someone frame me? Is it theft? Corruption? Murder? Should I hire a lawyer? Do I even have money for a lawyer? Am I going to jail? Do jails have clean toilets? Wait… is there TV in jail? Or am I going to be hanged immediately?
"Hey. Are you listening?" the first officer asks.
Ren snaps back to reality. "Y-yes. Sorry."
"Are you Ren?"
"Yeah… that’s me?"
"You need to come with us to the station," the second officer says flatly.
"Wait, what? Why?" Ren asks, bewildered. "I’ve been here all day!"
"You’ll find out soon enough."
Chapter 2: The Interrogation
By nightfall, Ren is sitting on the edge of a hard chair in a police interrogation room, his anxiety rising as a fan whirs rhythmically overhead. A detective enters and drops a tablet on the table in front of him.
The screen shows grainy CCTV footage from a bar. In the video, a man in a leather jacket leans close to Ren at the counter, whispers something, and rushes out. Moments later, the footage cuts to black.
"That man was a high-profile target," the detective explains. "He was hit by a truck ten minutes after speaking to you."
Ren looks confused. "Oh... that guy."
The detective leans in, suddenly alert. "You knew him?"
"No!" Ren insists. "I mean—he just said something weird to me before he left."
"What did he say?" the detective asks. Behind the two-way mirror, every observer leans in closer.
Ren pauses for a beat. "He told me… 'The black bunny will eat the white rat... because the Lion King is fake.'"
The detective freezes. "He said that?"
Ren nods solemnly. "And he said you would know what it means."
Chapter 3: The Rabbit Hole
The phrase is soon plastered across a whiteboard in the police war room, surrounded by a chaotic web of string and pins. Officers shout interpretations at one another while a junior cop desperately searches "Black Bunny" on Reddit.
Meanwhile, back in his cell, Ren stares at the ceiling and smiles to himself. It's just random words anyway, he thinks.
In the strategy room, stacks of files and half-eaten samosas surround Officer Grad, who is currently rubbing his temples in frustration. "First, check all known gangs or syndicates with animal-based codenames," Grad orders. "Bunny, Rat, Lion—anything."
"Sir, what about The Mad Jackals?" an officer asks.
"Does that sound like a bunny to you?" Grad snaps.
An hour of furious typing passes with no results. Just as Grad is about to call it a night, Junior Officer Meena stammers, "S-Sir… wait! I think I found something."
She nervously knocks over a chair as the room goes quiet. "There’s a gang... very small. Goes by the name 'Bunny.' Mostly low-level scuffles. But something’s off."
She throws a picture onto the screen. It looks like a group of punks on motorbikes, but one officer points to a specific detail: "Wait... enhance that tattoo."
The image zooms in on a bunny sitting atop a black bear pawprint.
"Sir, that’s the symbol of the Black Bear Syndicate," an officer whispers. The air in the room goes cold. The Black Bear Syndicate is a massive organization dealing in rare minerals, yet the city has no mines.
"Either way, we just kicked a beehive," Grad says, his voice grim. "Full alert. And for the love of God, keep this off the record."
Chapter 4: The Accidental Syndicate
At the Bunny Gang hideout, the Boss—a greasy-haired man wearing sunglasses indoors—is locked into an intense online game. Suddenly, the door slams open, and a breathless member rushes in.
"Boss!! Urgent!!"
"DAMMIT!" the Boss screams, smashing his mouse and accidentally closing his game. "Do you know what you just made me do?"
"I’m sorry! But it’s big news!" the member shouts, smiling like an idiot. "Congratulations, Boss. You’re famous now. The whole city knows... you’re Black Bear!"
The Boss stares at him, a migraine forming behind his sunglasses. When did I become part of Black Bear? he wonders. Do I even look like a bear?
"It leaked from the cops," the member explains. "They found the secret code: 'Black bunny will eat white rat because lion king is fake.' They saw our bunny tattoo on that pawprint! Boom. Black Bear."
The Boss screams internally. That’s not a bear paw! That’s just clipart!
"Right," the Boss says out loud, trying to maintain his composure. "Yeah. You’re in the loop now. We lie low. If anyone asks—we’re 'hibernating.'"
"Like bears?" the member asks.
"Exactly. Now go hide before your brain causes more damage."
As the member leaves, the Boss mutters to himself, "I just wanted to steal some car radios. Now I’m in a fake syndicate war over a bunny meme."
Chapter 5: The Purge
In a dimly lit underground lounge, the top brass of the Ivory Claw Syndicate—a supposed united front of local gangs—sits in a cloud of cigar smoke and paranoia.
"How the hell does Black Bear know about White Rat?" the oldest member demands. The room ripples with murmurs. "White Rat" was a secret code for a potential mineral resource worth billions, and there was no paper trail.
"There’s a traitor," someone whispers. Trust shatters instantly. By dawn, the city’s black market is on fire as splinter gangs turn on one another.
Across town, Ren is rewatching cartoons, wondering why his Wi-Fi is suddenly so slow.
At Police HQ, Officer Grad is exhausted. His team has interrogated dozens of gang members, but no one knows what "White Rat" actually is. "Enough," Grad says, dismissing his team.
Suddenly, a loud crash echoes through the room. The junior officer has tripped and fallen again.
"I just tripped! My legs are tired!" she cries as the room groans in disappointment.
Alone in the dim room, Grad stares at the whiteboard: Black bunny will eat white rat because lion king is fake. "We don’t even know who the Lion King is," he whispers. "And yet the entire underworld is ready to kill each other over this."
Chapter 6: Escalation
In a sleek underground chamber, a different Boss gathers his underbosses around an obsidian table.
"Confirming: Black Bear is targeting that small city for something called 'White Rat,'" an underboss reports.
The Boss’s voice is like quiet thunder. "If Black Bear is making a move, it’s serious. Find out what White Rat is before anyone else does."
Suddenly, a panicked runner bursts in. "The Black Bunny gang—dead. Found dumped in the old district."
The room falls into a thick silence. "Is this a military-grade mineral? A weapon?" an underboss asks.
"Everyone wants White Rat now," the Boss mutters, "and nobody even knows what it is."
Meanwhile, at Government Intelligence, the Minister of Internal Security is rubbing his temples. "This is what’s causing the underworld to move like sharks?" he asks, pointing to the bunny phrase.
"Sir," an officer explains, "the man who died was actually a deep-cover operative. He whispered the code to a civilian named Ren."
"Who the hell is Ren?" the Minister asks.
"He’s... aggressively average. Unemployed, meme page admin, eats chips. His memes are genuinely terrible, sir. They read like haiku generated by an AI having a stroke."
The Minister sighs. "Great. A joke nobody understands is now a national security threat."
Chapter 7: The Blast
At Black Bear Headquarters, the actual Boss is exploding with rage. "I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT WHITE RAT IS!" he screams at his lieutenants.
"Red Dot doesn't believe you, Boss," a lieutenant whimpers. "He says you're 'hiding the cheese.'"
A government official saunters into the room with a smug smile. "Black Bear. Making moves without informing us? Tsk tsk."
"I'm begging you!" the Boss cries. "Why would I risk war over something I don't understand? What am I supposed to gain? A subscription to Netflix for life?"
Back at Police HQ, Officer Grad has reached his limit. "We’re done waiting. This city is going on lockdown. Call in reinforcements. Arm them to the teeth."
"This is a purge," Grad tells his team. "If they want war over a sentence, we’ll give them one."
On the streets, two petty thieves are confronted by a SWAT team jumping out of a van. "DROP THE NOKIA 3310!" an officer yells.
"It’s unbreakable! You’ll never take it alive!" the thief sobs.
In another hideout, a gang boss is told that their only lead—a man who supposedly knew about White Rat—has been killed. "The police blasted the building with a rocket launcher before he could run," an underling reports.
"They’re using rocket launchers in the city now!?" the boss screams.
Chapter 8: The Declaration
The local gangs meet in a state of collective shame. "I threw a Molotov at a cat because it startled me," one confesses.
When the police arrive, the gang boss decides to surrender rather than be vaporized by a bazooka. He walks out with his hands up and sees armored trucks, drones, and a tank.
Officer Grad steps forward. "Do you know about the White Rat?"
"Yes," the boss says.
Grad nods and turns to his men. "Boys—blast it."
The building erupts into fire. "WHY!?" the boss screams. "They were surrendering!"
"We only needed one guy to talk," Grad says, adjusting his collar.
Later, the Black Bear Boss decides he’s had enough. He broadcasts a video to every major war room and syndicate bunker. "WE ARE NOT EATING WHITE RAT!" he screams at the camera. "But since you all want us to eat it—FINE. THIS IS OFFICIALLY WAR, YOU BASTARDS."
Then, he turns to his staff. "Black Bear is dissolved. I am no longer Black Bear. I am Alies Maximus now. We run."
Ren, watching the news, sees the headline BLACK BEAR DECLARES WAR before clicking back to cartoons. "Stupid news channel," he mutters.
Chapter 9: The Real Lion King
The news that "White Rat" was actually just a codename for a small, 100-kilogram platinum reserve eventually reaches the Minister and Officer Grad.
"We pulled out rocket launchers… for 100 kilos of platinum?" Grad asks, dead inside.
"No one can back down now," the Minister says. "There's too much blood in the water."
Other syndicates, like Forever Winter, are now moving to capture the city itself, regardless of the mineral's value, "This isn't crime anymore," the Minister whispers, "This is terrorism."
Ren stands on his balcony, looking at the orange sky and the distant smoke. "Ah... the city’s gotten so peaceful lately," he remarks as a rocket launcher fires in the distance. "Just a few firecrackers now and then."
He turns to his teddy bear. "Come on, buddy. Let’s go watch The Lion King. Maybe today we’ll figure out who the real lion king is."
At Police HQ, the news gets worse. "Sir, the military is deploying in 48 hours. Operation Steel Curtain," an officer tells Grad.
"What are we even fighting for anymore?" a syndicate boss asks his men as he sees tanks rolling in. "Is this a Marvel crossover?"
Chapter 10: The Winter Bear
In the Forever Winter base, a man in dramatic sunglasses steps out of the shadows.
"Name’s Alies Maximus. Kneel before your king," he says. It is the former Black Bear Boss, now working with his uncle.
"Black Bear is gone," Alies explains. "I declared war, dropped the mic, and vanished. Every pawn played their part... except the kingmaker."
He points to a CCTV clip of Ren and the dying gangster. They raise a toast to the dumbest prophecy that ever changed the world.
The next morning, Ren wakes up to sunlight and the sound of a missile cracking his window.
He watches the news in horror: "...'Black bunny will eat white rat because lion king is fake'—the phrase that triggered a war between syndicates and the military..."
"No… no no no..." Ren stammers. "Those were just words. I made them up."
A ding-dong at the door interrupts his panic. He opens it to find two fully armored officers. One of them is Officer Grad, looking like a man who has died several times over.
"Ren..." Grad says, holding a file. "Did you pay the bar tab?"
Ren flashes back to the drunk gangster, the nonsense words, and the unpaid bill.
"Sorry?" he trembles as another missile explodes behind him.
